A university project I did while studying abroad in Ireland at the NCAD. The assignment was to design four book covers for different books that took place in Dublin, after doing a field study in Dublin that included sketching the city, taking photos, collecting materials, scrapbooking, etc. Part of the assignment was to make the book covers look unified, I established this by using similar textures and silhouettes in cover designs.
Ulysses - James Joyce
Ulysses is a book written as a constant stream of consciousness and thoughts. The story follows a man named Leopold Bloom who lives his life in Dublin.
My cover design features a silhouette of the main character that is surrounded by squiggly lines that represent the stream of thoughts. In the background is a brick texture and a map of Dublin. I went with a color scheme that conveys a surrealistic and dreamlike feeling, that fits the theme of a constant stream of consciousness.

The Van - Roddy Doyle
The Van is a humorous book about two friends down on their luck, who decide to start a fish-and-chips business by buying an old van together. It all starts well, but as time goes on things start to unravel between the two friends.
My cover design features elements from the story, such as the van, the two friends, and fish-and-chips. I used bright and fun colors to convey the humorous feeling of the book. The background features elements from Dublin (buildings, brick texture) and a fish-and-chips wrapper.

Strumpet City - James Plunket
"Strumpet City" by James Plunkett is a portrayal of early 20th-century Dublin, weaving the lives, dreams, and struggles of its diverse inhabitants against a backdrop of societal change.
In my cover design, I took inspiration from the lockout of 20,000 workers in Dublin in 1913.
My design features a mob of angry workers protesting outside of a locked factory. I went with a color scheme that conveys the unrest of the mob.

The Gathering - Anne Enright
The Gathering tells a story about siblings who are brought together after a long time, due to the mysterious death of their brother.
In my cover design, I wanted to portray the ominous feeling of the book. I included ravens in the artwork because they are often associated with misfortune and bad omens.
